This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total fiasco. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to be effective. At this point, it feels like we're toast. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a mess of epic proportions.
Dude, This Is Pathetic Yet Somehow Entertaining
Sometimes you stumble upon situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of chaos and just throws its hands up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping strategy.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of confusion. You wonder about the nature of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Awful Day Ever
It all started with my case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was running out the door, I fell and with a thud all over the floor. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for a very important appointment.
I sweating. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was no use.
The rest of the day was just as bad. seemed to conspire against me. I stay awake.
By the time I got home, I was physically and emotionally wiped out. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
